About Luke: Luke truly is a gentle giant, standing at the very top of the standard. He has the sweetest, easiest-going temperament and a heart of gold. Luke came to Canada to live with us at two years old in 2016, making the massive journey all the way from South Africa! He had never seen snow before, so when he stepped off the plane in Alberta in January, he was absolutely shocked. He walked across the snow like a cat touching water for the first time! Thankfully, it didn’t take him long to discover that snow is actually a lot of fun, and he quickly fell in love with learning to be a sled dog. Luke is truly an angel and has always been the very best boy. He is outgoing, affectionate, and loves absolutely everyone – both people and animals. There is nothing he wouldn’t do to make his people happy, and his gentle, loving nature has made him such a special part of our lives. At 10 years old, we made the selfless decision to give Luke the retirement he so deserved. He is now living his best life as a very spoiled king with our wonderful friends, Mariette & Michael, in Edmonton. He gets to spend his days alongside his daughter, Mira, and his cat friend, Harvey, and the three of them are truly three peas in a pod. We couldn’t be happier for our sweet Luke. He has given us so many wonderful memories, and knowing he is spending his golden years so loved, spoiled, and happy makes our hearts incredibly full.
Achievements: Luke was only shown for three weekends in Canada, but he made every weekend count! He had an incredible start to his show career, earning his Canadian Championship during his very first weekend in the ring. Along the way, he won multiple Best of Breed awards over several Grand Champion dogs and picked up a huge Working Group 4. His second weekend was just as impressive, earning two more Group 4 placements, a Group 3, and a Group 2. He finished his Grand Championship on his third weekend out in style, winning another impressive Working Group 3. Fun fact: the very same judge who awarded Luke his final Canadian Championship points also finished him as a Grand Champion! Outside of the show ring, Luke was also a fantastic working sled dog and a dependable wheel dog on our teams. He loved having a job and being out on the trails with his people, continuing to run with us until his well-earned retirement at 10 years old. Luke has always loved being with his people and is always up for trying something new. Over the years, he has earned his Novice Trick Dog, Agility Novice, Versatility Novice, and 2-K9 Ruff Run titles, proving that his talents extend far beyond the conformation ring. We are also incredibly proud to say that Luke is a Sire of Merit, having produced five Champion offspring who continue his legacy. We absolutely love this boy and could not be more proud of everything he has accomplished.
